Arrgh, mateys: today be Talk Like a Pirate Day!

We have a lot of TLAPD related events going on this year, I have a pretty big pile of e-mail and comments to sort through. This is what we have going on so far…

• Cap’n Strobel has s Facebook Event for Talk Like a Pirate Day
• Captain Pigheart has written a couple new stories, all in his insane pirate dialect: Captain Pigheart’s Triffic Adventure and Captain Pigheart’s Theological Adventure
• In international news, Fearal has started an Irish Talk Like a Pirate Day site
• Brilliant Book Press has put together a book of Pirate Lingo
• Wee World has added a bunch of pirate stuff to their site, you can now make a Wee that looks like a pirate!
• The Pirate vs. Ninja debate rages on, Greg has put a website together where you can vote on who wins. Pirates are behind right now, visit his site and set things right. ;)
• HowToDoThings has gone pirate this year, they have posted a bunch of pirate related articles. You can now follow their handy instructions on How to Talk Like a Pirate or How to Be a Pirate Wench.
• The Bus Pirates are working on some new pirate-y webisodes
• Jeremey Crittendon will be posting a new podcast in which he talks like a pirate. If he can keep it up the entire podcast, he gets a free mug.
• Kirsty Dunphy has written an interesting article discussing how pirates should be your new entrepreneurial role model. I had never thought about it quite like that before. :)
• I bet I mention this every year, but the IconFactory as a couple sets of pirate icons: Jolly Roger and Jolly Roger Volume 2
• India Hill Media Works has a blog of their preparations for Talk Like a Pirate Day. They look quite serious about it.

Aye, ’twas a fine Talk Like a Pirate Day. We were see’in traffic the likes of which we ‘ad ne’er seen before. Several times I thought the ship was sinking, but we managed to keep ‘er afloat!

• For the actual day in the US: 515,245 page views over 184,130 people
• For the whole week: 774,865 page views over 274,103 people
• According to Technorati, we received 311 links from 262 blogs

That’s a lot more than last year, where we saw 321,982 page views for 45,884 people! Some people did get an error page as the database became overwelmed, but we started serving up cached pages in the late morning and that really made a big difference. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and made this a great Talk Like a Pirate Day!

• Slashdot posted an article on TLAPD
• Yahoo! featured an article on the front page that linked to the TLAPD website
• Digg had an article on the Pirate Speak translator, among several other TLAPD related pieces
• ZDNet Australia ran an article about Linus Torvalds (the lead developer of Linux) taking part in TLAPD
• The Pirate Bay had a big banner on their front page that pointed to this website!
• ABC ran a TLAPD episode of Wife Swap featuring the Baurs from the Talk Like a Pirate site
• Google didn’t celebrate the day, but they did reply to the request in pirate

There are a many, many more interesting links and people sent in a ton of good stuff, if only there was more time and space! Thanks again, and we’ll see you next year!
